Aphiwe Magida is a qualified Senior Phase teacher, majoring in Life Science and isiXhosa Home Language subjects. Aphiwe is also the founder of “Back 2 School” a Non-Profit organization that runs monthly workshops, at the American Corner, Central Library Cape Town. Back 2 School educates young artists about the commercial side of art, Aphiwe was elected when he was doing his second year of the Teaching course as an event organizer of Buya Mbo Art Society at CPUT Mowbray Campus for a period of two years. Aphiwe Magida is a Xhosa fanatic, his short stories and poems have been published at “Intinga Journal” 2013 at the Nelson Mandela Metro University in the Eastern Cape, Gqeberha when he was doing Grade 10. On 2018 Aphiwe Magida won first position in a ‘Naked Word Festival’ poetry slam, He got published again under ‘CYPHER’ a poetry youth hub, located at Cape Town in a Poetry anthology entitled “Ukombela” on 2019. On 2021 he got published for the third time in “Chasing The Dream” publishing house under “Pick Me Up” poetry organization, in an international poetry anthology entitled “Letting In The Light”. Aphiwe’s Xhosa and English poems got published on October 2021, in “Kaapstad” poetry anthology which is an anthology that is published under the Back 2 School Non-Profit organization, which features young poets from the Western Cape. It is an anthology that aims at embracing South African young writer’s diversity in language, identity, sexuality and beliefs. The “Kaapstad” anthology has since gained recognition on multiple local newspapers, like the Weekend Argus, Table Talk, Plains News and more… The “Kaapstad” anthology is also available on Cape Town book shops, and at the Central Library of Cape Town. Aphiwe is a social activist that always advocates for equal and quality education for all.
